Sightseeing of the interior of East of Mikawa

One sunny day in March I went to the interior of East Mikawa with Michael.
We didn't have enough time, but it was a wonderful drive.

Yotsuya Senmida ( Thousand of ricefields in Yotsuya )

The signboard says,

Senmaida ( One thousand ricefields )
From here we can look down on nearly 1000 ricefields.
They are on the slope made by a landslide.
They were made by farmers' hard work.
The name of Senmaida came from the number of the fields.

The Senmaida (The Thousand of Ricefields)

In The Ohshiro district, we had much rain for about twenty days in 1904 ( 37th of the Meiji period ).
A cruel accident happend.
Mud gathered and made a dam, then the water overflowed and carried away ten houses, fields and ten people perished.
The villagers didn't know what to do after.
But they began to made the thousand ricefields by using hoes and carrying bags knitted rice grass in many years.
Actually there were 1,296 ricefields. The average size of one is 90 square meters.
Now 39 farmers use 850 fields. One farmer cultivats 62 fields at most.
The victims of the landslide are burred in the Kashage pass from where we can see the whole of the village.

The Village of Plum "Kaore"
This is a photo of Kaore. It is a small village in the interior of East Mikasa in Aichi prefecture Japan.
In midle of March plum brossoms bloom.
The scene reminds me Ardadia in China.
Plums of Kaore

These plum trees were planted in 1960's ( the 30's of the Showa pereod ).
Pink and white brossoms bloom in the middle of March.
Sometimes the beautiful scene was presented in short Japanese poems ( Tanka and Haiku ).
The number of visitor began to increase. They came from near and far.
Plum jam, plum juice, Umeboshi ( salted plum ), and plum liqueur are all made from plum fruit.
And the branches of the plum tree used as cloth dyestaff.
