Nagoya Foreign Mothers' Group

Welcome to the website of the Foreign Mothers' Group of Nagoya, Japan!

Living in Japan as a foreigner is sometimes difficult specially when you're pregnant or have a small baby and doesn't speak the language. To help foreign women in this situation the Nagoya Foreign Mothers' Group was organized in 1996 by Ms Misako Iwamoto, a veteran midwife who selflessly committed herself for years volunteering to help foreign expectant moms. For all these years, our members come and go, many of whom have gone back to their country, moved out of Nagoya and some are still around and we are happy to be of help to these wonderful moms. We are also grateful for their support, those moms who had babies and still come to our meetings and meet our new members and share their experiences, information and give advices as well.
Please come to our meeting, it's free and you can bring your kids, husband or partner. These meetings can be very helpful, not only when you are expecting, but also during the first few months with a new-born baby. It is a place to meet mothers and mothers-to-be from various cultural backgrounds. You can ask questions, talk over any worries or difficulties you have, not only with a midwife but with other "experienced" parents as well.

We have our monthly meeting every 2nd Saturday of the month, (except August and December) from 10:00 - 12:00 at the Nagoya City Women's Center (Meijo subway line, Higashi-betsuin station, exit #1). We usually hold our meeting at the back door living room lobby: watch for our signs in  the hallway or in the lobby of the library on the first floor. If you are coming by car, there's a parking space behind the building for unlimited hours, fee is 300 yen.

If you have some questions, please feel free to call or send email to:
Misako Iwamoto (midwife), phone/fax (052) 847-0243
Lorna Ohigashi, phone (052) 331 9019, 090-2344-8978.
